eco cooling

An evaporative eco-cooling system is an extremely environmentally friendly way to introduce cooling to a building.

Many modern buildings require cooling either for the comfort of the occupants or to protect the processes or equipment they contain. There are three typical methods which can be employed to cool these buildings; ventilation, evaporative cooling or a refrigeration based air conditioning system. The choice of system can have a dramatic effect on the total carbon emissions of the building due to their different demands on energy consumption.

Evaporative eco-coolers are extremely environmentally friendly compared to refrigerant based systems and can be specified and installed to solve the problem of excessive heat where temperatures in summer months are excessive thus making working conditions unbearable.

An evaporative cooling installation typically consumes less than 15% of the electricity compared to the equivalent rated refrigeration based cooling system.

These savings are sufficient for most eco cooling installations in Small to Medium Enterprises (SME’s) to qualify for an interest free Carbon Trust loan.

Cooling is provided by evaporative heat exchange which takes advantage of the principles of the latent heat of evaporation. It makes use of the free latent energy in the atmosphere.

The hotter the outside temperature and the lower the humidity, the greater will be the cooling effect.  On the hottest day in the UK up to 15°C of cooling can be achieved through this process.

By simply bringing in ambient air this will keep a building cool most of the year.
